In all of the email marketing courses I have taken, the first step, and most important factor, is having a list of people to market my products and services.

So I added the opt-in form fields to my website in hopes of gaining a list of people interested in my products. The result was less than successful. Having a full list that was of any value was going to take me years.

So how can I reach out to people that are interested in my products or services? Where can I get a list of emails? I did not want to purchase a list of emails in the hope it might contain a few interested people.

Recently, I stumbled across a tool called Phantombuster.

I have run across scraping tools on the Internet many times. Phantombuster is so much more.

Note: I am not affiliated with Phantombuster and I am not being compensated for this article. This information is based solely on my personal experience with the product.

Yes, it is a data scraper. But more than that, it is a workflow builder. The end goal not always being a list of emails.

This tool provides data to allow me to connect to a group of people on LinkedIn or Instagram with my message. I can also find people that belong to a specific group on Facebook. These are just 2 of the many examples of workflows that can be created to produce a usable list of contacts.

Here are the highlights of the tools functionality as stated on their website:

  • Automate any action you can do on the web
  • Extract data from the web
  • Schedule and trigger actions to run automatically
  • Chain automations to build advanced workflows

The workflows allow you to create a well targeted audience for your email marketing campaigns. I am not suggesting you scrape every email you can and send out a blast selling your products.

Any email campaign should start with allowing the recipient the opportunity to opt-in or out of your emails before you try and hammer them with your sales message.

The real beauty of Phantombuster is it allows you to reach out without an email to determine interest. You could then direct those interested to a webpage or social account that let’s them opt-in to your message.

This allows you to build a well-focused, qualified list of people that are actually interested in what you have to offer.

They offer a free tier and a 14 day trial of the Growth Hacker tier when you sign up. Sign-up was very simple and did not require me to enter a credit card to try it out.

If you have time to give it a try, let me know your thoughts. Feel free to leave a comment on any other tools you have found that can help build an email marketing list.
